A area of the archaeological armpit of Al-Hijr -- additionally accepted as Madain Saleh -- in arctic Saudi Arabia was added on to UNESCO's World Heritage List on July 6, 2008. Al-Hijr, the better conserved armpit of the acculturation of the Nabataeans south of Petra in Jordan, is the aboriginal World Heritage armpit in Saudi Arabia.
